Annually at our Installation Banquet, the club honors certain club members for outstanding dedication and service to the club and community with a fellowship award where a donation is made from the club on behalf of the recipeint. Over the years, members have been recognized with various fellowship awards. Below are the recipients and a brief background history of each Fellow.

George F. Hixson Fellows

In 1983, the Kiwanis Children's Fund established the George F. Hixson Fellowship. Named for Kiwanis International’s first president, Hixson Fellowships are awarded to donors who give US$1,000 or more to the Children's Fund.* It’s a way of recognizing people who have contributed significantly to Kiwanis’ history of generosity. In fact, clubs and Kiwanians often give in honor of another person or organization—recognizing others’ help and commitment with a Hixson Fellowship.

River of Life Fellows

The River of Life is designed to allow participation by every member in the District. Contributors can make a one-time donation of $1,000, or pledge to donate that amount over a two year period. Clubs can use the RIVER OF LIFE FUND as a way to honor outstanding members, club officers, or club patrons. Contributions of $1,000 will be recognized with a unique pin and a framed print, which distinguishes the donor/recipient as a “River of Life Fellow.”

Walter F. Zeller Fellows

In 1940, one year after the Kiwanis International Foundation was established as a legal entity, Walter Zeller (top right) made the first donation: 25 Canadian silver dollars that he hoped would turn into the foundation's nest egg.  This donor's dream came true. Auctioned for US$625, his coins launched the Kiwanis International Foundation's worldwide service efforts. The foundation has grown into a multi-million dollar organization that awards grants to Kiwanis clubs and underwrites life-altering worldwide service projects (especially Eliminate Project). Members can become a Walter Zeller Fellow by making a one-time gift or two-year consecutive pledge of US$1,250 to The Eliminate Project. All Walter Zeller Fellows will receive a special medallion, lapel pin and certificate.

Past Lt. Governors for LAMISSTENN District (from Kiwanis Club of Houma)

Just as the club president is the leader of the club, the Lieutenant Governor is the leader of the division. The Lieutenant Governor invests balanced efforts in working with existing clubs and opening new clubs to strengthen Kiwanis within the communities in the division. This position is the connection between the clubs, the District (LAMISSTENN or Louisiana-Mississippi-West Tennessee) and the global Kiwanis organization when it comes to communication, resources, education opportunities and information. The Lieutenant Governor works closely with club leadership, specifically club presidents, to ensure that they feel supported and have access to information to continuously improve their members’ experience.
